Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DOLPHINS REMAIN ALIVE IN PLAYOFF CHASE WITH 1-1 DRAW AT UDC

Washington, D.C. - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team traveled to Washington, D.C. today for the first of three conference games remaining on their schedule against the University of the District of Columbia.  CSI struck first early in the match, but the Firebirds would tie up the score late.  After UDC went the first 78 minutes without a goal, the Dolphins went the final 78 minutes without a goal and settled for a 1-1 draw.  The Dolphins end the day 4-9-2 overall following the tie and are now 2-2-2 in conference play.  The Firebirds are now 6-7-2 on the season and 1-5-2 against the ECC.

The Dolphins registered the game's first goal right at the start of the twenty-second minute when Nicholas Kishenko scored for the third time this year.  Daniel Angulo, who now shares the team lead in goals with Kishenko, picked up the assist.  After the Dolphins scored twenty-one minutes into the match, the Firebirds netted the equalizer with twenty-one minutes remaining.  Thomas Cecil picked up the goal on an assist from Santiago Gordillo Martinez.  This would be the last time either team would score as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Both teams had their share of scoring chances in the match as the two sides combined for thirty shots, twenty-two of them on goal.  CSI's goal-scorer Kishenko led the game in shots with four, and two other players, including UDC goal-scorer Thomas Cecil, had three.  The goal for Cecil was his second of the year and the assist for Gordillo Martinez was his first.  In net, two UDC goalkeepers combined for nine saves in the game and Amari Thompson added eight more for CSI.

With the draw, the Dolphins remain very much alive in the playoff hunt, but they will now need some help.  In order to qualify for the East Coast Conference playoffs the Dolphins will now have to win their remaining two games.  A loss in either of their remaining matches would eliminate the CSI.  In addition to winning both of their remaining games, the Dolphins now need Mercy College to defeat Roberts Wesleyan University when those two teams meet.  The Dolphins will look to earn the first of the two victories they need on Wednesday when they host Daemen University at Dolphins Soccer Park.
