GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S SOCCER LOOKS TO KEEP PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE AGAINST LINCOLN

10/22/2022 10:00:00 AM

Lincoln, PA - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team is looking to keep their playoff hopes alive as they travel to Lincoln, PA to take on Lincoln University tonight at 6 PM.  The Dolphins come in 1-8-2 on the season and are 1-4 against the East Coast Conference.  In order for CSI to make the playoffs they will need to win their remaining three matches and will need St. Thomas Aquinas College to lose one of their remaining conference games against Queens or D'Youville.  The 1-10 Lions have been eliminated from playoff contention as they are 0-5 against the conference.  These two teams have faced one another once before, and it was the Dolphins picking up the 2-0 victory on their home turf last year.

The Dolphins last played on Wednesday against Georgian Court and all of the scoring in that match took place in a three minute window.  First, Jacquelyn D'Amico gave CSI the 1-0 lead on a header that was assisted by a Nadia Evola free kick.  Just moments later, the Lions registered the equalizer on an Aliyah Canfield goal.  The 1-1 score would stand the rest of the way and the Dolphins played to a draw for the second time this season. The last game for Lincoln was also on Wednesday when they took on Mercy College.  It was a huge win for the nationally ranked Mavericks as they handed Lincoln their tenth loss of the season.

It has been a struggle on the attack for the Dolphins this year, but D'Amico's first goal of the season in CSI's last match energized the CSI sidelines and the home crowd assembled at Dolphins Soccer Park.  Though the energy was short-lived, the Dolphins were able to avoid being shut out for the third straight match.  Even when the Dolphins have failed to score, their goalkeeping has kept them within striking distance in most games.  Sara Villacres did not play on Wednesday, but she has steadily decreased her goals-allowed average throughout the season.  Brianna Dore also surrendered just one goal on Wednesday in the draw against Georgian Court.  All but one of the Lincoln goals this season came in one match against Trinity on October 12th and, like the Dolphins, Lincoln has struggled to score.  However, their issues on the attack have been coupled with goalkeeping and defensive struggles that have seen the team allow double-digit goals twice this season.
