GAMEDAY: MEN'S SOCCER TAKES ON DAEMEN IN MUST-WIN LATE-SEASON MATCHUP

10/26/2022 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team will play a must-win game at home this afternoon when they take on on the Daemen University Wildcats in their final home game of the 2022 season.  The Dolphins come in 4-9-2 on the season and 2-2-2 against the East Coast Conference.  The Dolphins must win their last two games and then get some help to qualify for the conference playoffs.  Standing between them and a potential playoff berth are the 6-6-3 Wildcats who come in with a 2-3-1 record against the ECC.

The Dolphins last played on Saturday against the University of the District of Columbia hoping to pick up the first of three wins needed to clinch a playoff spot.  Unable to pick up the victory, the Dolphins settled for a 1-1 draw to remain alive in the playoff hunt.  The Wildcats were last in action on Saturday as well when they outlasted Slippery Rock University by a final score of 1-0.

The Dolphins continue to be led in goals by Nicholas Kishenko and Daniel Angulo, both of whom factored into the scoring on Saturday.  It was Kishenko who netted his third goal of the season on an assist from Angulo to give the Dolphins an early 1-0 lead against the Firebirds.  Once again, Amari Thompson was solid in goal allowing just one score against UDC on Saturday.  The Wildcats' lone goal in their last game was scored by Pontis Lundin, his first of the season.  Daemen is led in both goals and assists by Derek Bartlo who has seven scores and four helpers on the season.  In net, Marcos Lerma Escobar has allowed just over a goal and a half per game and saved 78% of the shots he has faced.
