GAMEDAY: MEN'S SOCCER TAKES ON QUEENS IN FINAL MATCH OF 2022 SEASON

10/29/2022 10:00:00 AM

Queens, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team will wrap up the 2022 season on the road tonight when they take on Queens College at 8 PM.  The Dolphins come in 4-10-2 on the season and 2-3-2 against the East Coast Conference.  CSI was eliminated from playoff contention with their loss to Daemen University on Wednesday and the 12-5 Knights have locked up a playoff spot by virtue of their 5-2 record against the East Coast Conference.  The Dolphins lead the all-time series 7-4, but the Knights took the 1-0 win in their most recent meeting last season.

The Dolphins last played on Wednesday against Daemen University needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive heading into tonight's game.  After statistically dominating the first half, the Dolphins headed into halftime locked in a scoreless tie.  However, Daemen would score consecutive goals to take a 2-0 lead following the break.  CSI immediately responded to pull within one, but the Wildcats were able to maintain their one-goal advantage the rest of the way and took the 2-1 win.  The Knights were last in action one week ago against Saint Thomas Aquinas College and took the victory over the Spartans by a final score of 2-1.

Nicholas Kishenko scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in CSI's last outing against the Wildcats on Wednesday  Both Jahmali Peterson and Roberto Gioffre earned their first point of the season as each picked up an assist on the goal as well.  Leading the Dolphins in points is Daniel Angulo with three goals and three assists, and along with Kishenko, Angulo is joined in scoring multiple goals by Brendan Maguire and Steven Adebisi.  Defensively, Leandro Angulo and Luis Ascencio Cueva enter CSI's final match having played in and started every game for the Dolphins this season.  Steven Flores has also played in every game starting all but one.  Adolfo Martinez Paquet leads the Knights in goals with nine and has collected 20 points on the season.  Leo Pinto and David Oprea each have four goals, and four other Knights have scored multiple goals this season.  CSI goalkeeper Amari Thompson will be opposed in net by Dario Giovanni Cruz who has allowed just over one goal per game and saved over 76% of the shots he has faced.
