GAMEDAY: MEN'S SOCCER GOES FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE WIN VS CHESTNUT HILL

10/5/2022 10:00:00 AM

Philadelphia, PA - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team will go for their third straight win tonight when they visit the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College.  The Dolphins, winners of their last two matches in conference play, enter tonight's game 3-7.  The Griffins come in with an overall record of 1-7-3 looking to snap a two-game losing streak.  Tonight's game will be the first time these two teams have met.

The Dolphins were last in action on Saturday against the Saints of D'Youville University in a game that saw the team score a season-high four goals.  Steven Branco, Shane Siegel, and Yousef Dardeir each scored their first goal of the season and Daniel Angulo found the back of the net for the third time.  Chestnut Hill last played Monday against Shippensburg.  The Griffins could not hold on to to 2-1 lead in the second half of that game which ended with the Raiders scoring a pair of unanswered goals.  The 3-2 loss made it back-to-back defeats for the Griffins and three consecutive games without a win.

The Dolphins come in playing their best soccer of the season due in part to the resurgence of Branco.  Since returning from injury, the Dolphins forward has been involved in many potential scoring chances including his first goal of the season on Saturday.  Brendan Maguire has also made the most of his recent increase in minutes and added an assist on Saturday.  Angulo's third goal on Saturday earned him sole possession of the team lead in that category, and he would also add another assist to his stat line in the closing seconds of the Dolphins' last game.  Lastly, Dennis Coticelli picked up two assists on Saturday, and his work on the wing has been key in CSI generating scoring chances.  In goal, Amari Thompson will look to translate his dominance at home into a similar effort on the road.  He has helped lead the Dolphins to a 3-2 mark on their home turf this season and has yet to allow more than two goals in any match at Dolphins Soccer Park.

Juan Ortiz is the point leader for the Griffins by a wide margin as he leads the team with 4 goals and 6 assists.  Jason Barragan, Juan Molina, and Conor Seeley have all scored multiple goals this season, each entering today's game with two.  In goal, Stephen Connor has allowed slightly over 2.6 goals per game across nine starts saving just shy of 74% of the shots he has faced.
