GAMEDAY: MEN'S SOCCER LOOKS TO KEEP PACE IN CONFERENCE STANDINGS AGAINST ROBERTS WESLEYAN

10/8/2022 8:30:00 AM

Rochester, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team will be back on the road today when they visit the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University for a conference matchup.  The Dolphins, now 3-8 on the season following Wednesday's loss at Chestnut Hill, will look to make it a 3-1 start against the East Coast Conference with a win.  The Redhawks come in 6-4-2 on the year and are 2-1-2 against the conference.  These two teams battled to a tie in their only meeting which came last season at Dolphins Soccer Park.

The Dolphins last played Wednesday on the road at Chestnut Hill College and were held without a goal in a 2-0 defeat.  The Dolphins were missing several key players in that match and were outshot by a nearly two-to-one margin in the defeat.  Like the Dolphins, the Redhawks were last in action for a non-conference game earlier this week.  Roberts Wesleyan last took the pitch on Tuesday and picked up a 3-1 victory on the road at Slippery Rock University.  After surrendering the first score of the match in the opening minutes, the Redhawks responded with three unanswered goal on their way to a 3-1 win.

The Dolphins attack followed up their four-goal outburst against D'Youville last weekend with a disappointing effort on Wednesday, but the team has scored six goals across their last two conference matches.  The goals against the Saints were scored by four different Dolphins and two additional Dolphins found the back of the net against the Spartans two weeks ago.  Of those six goal-scorers, Steven Branco, Brendan Maguire, Shane Siegel, and Yousef Dardeir were active on Wednesday.  With Amari Thompson out of the lineup on Wednesday the Dolphins turned to Columbus Enslen and Juan Cardona in net.  The duo combined to allow just a pair of goals in that game, and ahead of Wednesday night's match Thompson had lowered his goals allowed average below 2.3.  For the Redhawks, two players, Tamas Nagy and Dylan Ruiz, have scored seven goals this season.  That total is good for the team lead and Nagy has added six assists which also leads the Redhawks.  In goal, Jared Gibbons has played every minute for the Redhawks allowing 1.33 goals per game and saving nearly 78% of the shots he has faced.
