GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S SOCCER VISITS ROBERTS WESLEYAN IN PIVOTAL CONFERENCE MATCH

10/8/2022 6:00:00 AM

Rochester, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team hits the road for a huge conference match this afternoon when they visit the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University.  The Dolphins, 1-6-1 on the season, improved to 1-2 against the East Coast Conference with a win over D'Youville last weekend.  The Redhawks come in 9-1 on the season and are a perfect 4-0 against the conference thus far.  These two teams have met just once in a game won by the Redhawks last season, 3-1.

The Dolphins last took the pitch one week ago at home against the D'Youville University Saints.  It was a shutout victory for the Dolphins in front of their home fans as the team earned their first win of the season.  Adriana Melgar and Macy Jones-Busch each registered their first goal of the season and ECC Weekly Honor Roll award recipient Sara Villacres posted the clean sheet.  The Redhawks last played on Tuesday at Chestnut Hill College and took the 2-1 victory behind a Justine Sharda goal late in the first half followed by a Ella White goal early in the second half.

The Dolphins enter this conference matchup looking to even their record against the ECC, and their attack has begun to come alive during the last three matches since their return from a two-week layoff.  Entering their match against the Spartans on 9/24, the team was still looking for their first score of the season.  Since then, Jones-Busch, Melgar, and Christina Lambraia have all found the back of the net for the Dolphins, and the team has certainly had chances to add more scoring during each of the last three games.  Villacres is coming off of a solid week in net for the Dolphins and will be looking to replicate last Saturday's shutout effort.  For the Redhawks, White's goal on Tuesday increased her team-leading total to nine.  Three other players, Gabrielle Ciambella, Kaeleigh Romero, and Larissa Johnston, have each scored three goals and Kara Choate leads the team with four assists.  In goal, Nicolette Knauf will pose a big challenge for the Dolphins' attack as she has allowed less than one goal per game across her ten starts.
