Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO ROBERTS WESLEYAN IN SHUTOUT, 3-0

Rochester, NY – The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team was held without a goal for the second straight game in today's match against Roberts Wesleyan as they fell to the Redhawks by a final score of 3-0.  The Redhawks controlled play throughout the first half but failed to score until following the halftime break.  After the intermission, the Dolphins surrendered three unanswered goals and fell to 3-9 on the season, 2-2 against the East Coast Conference.  The win improves the Redhawks to 7-4-2 on the season and 3-1-2 against the ECC.

The two teams exchanged a pair of shots each during the opening minutes, but from the point forward, the Redhawks seized control of the first half.  The Dolphins would only attempt two more shots through the remainder of the half while the Redhawks would attempt five.  However, much of the pressure applied to the Dolphins' defense and goalkeeper Amari Thompson came as the result of eight Redhawks corner kicks.  Thompson would preserve the scoreless tie with three first-half saves, but he would not be able to keep the game scoreless much further.

Less than ten minutes into the second half the Redhawks finally broke through with the game's first goal.  On the first shot of the second half, Tamas Nagy scored off an assist from Dylan Ruiz to put Roberts Wesleyan ahead 1-0.  Just over ten minutes after that, Ruiz would add a goal to his stat line to make a 2-0 advantage for the home team.  Ruiz would make it a five-point outing in the seventy-third minute when he scored on a penalty kick to make it a 3-0 game.  The Dolphins attack was quiet for much of the second half attempting just three shots and failing to earn a corner kick.

The Dolphins attempted just seven shots in the match and Shane Siegel was the only player to put more than one on goal.  In net, Thompson collected six saves and did a good job of keeping CSI in the game through the first 45 minutes.  For the Redhawks, it was another exceptional performance for their two leading goal-scorers.  Nagy's ninth of the season to open the scoring temporarily earned him a share of the team lead, but Ruiz added two goals from there to bring his total on the season to 11.

The Dolphins will be on the road on Wednesday for their final non-conference match of the season when they take on Alliance University at 1:00 PM.
