GAMEDAY: MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYS FIRST AWAY GAME AT HOLY FAMILY

11/16/2022 10:00:00 AM

Philadelphia, PA - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team will be looking for their first victory of the season tonight when they take on the Tigers of Holy Family University at 8 PM.  The 0-2 Dolphins held double-digit leads in each of their first two games, but ended their annual Tournament of Heroes without a win.  The Tigers come in looking to remain unbeaten as they enter action tonight having won their first two games of the season.

The Dolphins were last in action this past weekend when they hosted their annual Tournament of Heroes.  In their first game on Friday, the Dolphins saw a double-digit first half lead turn into a seven point halftime deficit.  The Dolphins battled back and held the lead in the closing seconds, but a late score by Wilmington with five seconds remaining put the Wildcats ahead for good.  On Saturday against Goldey-Beacom, the Dolphins led by double-figures once again, but for the second time in as many games they could not hold on for the victory.  As for the Tigers, they have won their two games by a combined nine points and no strangers to playing in games that are close in the final minutes.

The Dolphins got over 20 points per game from Luis Armas through their first two games as the sophomore shot over 50% from the field and 60% from three.  Bryce Waterman also returned from his record-breaking season by hitting 9 of the 17 threes he attempted this past weekend.  Freshman JJ Chestnut scored 20 in just his second game with the Dolphins as well.  However, the Dolphins individual performances were highlighted by Messiah Mallory's near triple-double effort on Saturday.  After scoring 16 on Friday, Mallory had 13 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, and 6 blocks on Saturday against Goldey-Beacom.  This stat line helped him to his first East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week award.  For the Tigers, Malik Archer enters tonight's game scoring just shy of 20 points per game.  Eric Esposito, who is averaging 13 points, and David Robinson Jr., who is averaging 11, are both just one rebound shy of averaging a double-double.
