GAMEDAY: MEN'S BASKETBALL GOES FOR SECOND STRAIGHT HOME WIN AGAINST AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

12/10/2022 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team is back on their home floor this afternoon as they will take on the Yellow Jackets of American International College.  The 2-6 Dolphins will be looking for their second straight win at home today while the 3-7 Yellow Jackets will be looking to avoid their third consecutive loss.  These two teams have met just once in a game played last season.  It was a decisive win for American International in that game as they defeated the Dolphins 80-46.

The Dolphins were last in action on Tuesday night when they defeated the University of the District of Columbia in conference play by a final score of 74-63.  It was a tremendous effort from Messiah Mallory who provided the Dolphins with most of the scoring they would need in the game.  Mallory finished with 29 points and 13 rebounds on 12-17 shooting, but the big takeaway from the game victory CSI's defensive effort.  The Yellow Jackets played just two days ago and dropped a close game to Saint Anselm by a final score of 58-56.  Justice Ellison led AIC with 17 points in the game, but no other Yellow Jacket scored in double figures in the two-point loss.

On the heels of his big night on Tuesday, Mallory once again leads active Dolphins in scoring with 15.5 points per game.  Luis Armas isn't far behind averaging an even 14 points per game and is shooting nearly 37% from beyond the arc.  JJ Chestnut scored 15 on Tuesday night in another strong performance for the freshman guard.  He leads the Dolphins in assists and is also second on the team in steals.  Ellison leads the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 12.3 points per game and has done most of his damage off the AIC bench starting just one game this season.  He is also the team's leading rebounder barely edging out Jalen Jordan in that category.  Jordan is the team's third-leading scorer with 11.3 points per game and Jack Hall is second on the team in scoring at 12.1 points per game.
