MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING AVENGES LAST SEASON'S ONE-POINT LOSS WITH VICTORY OVER PACE

12/16/2022 8:23:00 PM

Pleasantville, NY - The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team took on Pace University earlier today adding another chapter to the extensive history between the two programs.  For the CSI women, a lopsided defeat drops them to 3-4 on the season and improves Pace to 5-2.  However, the CSI men evened up their record at 3-3 with a 154-131 over the Setters who fall to 2-4.  The CSI victory avenges last season's one-point loss to Pace in December of last year, a meet that came down to the very last event.

Though the CSI women fell in their meet, Jordan Swanson once again impressed in Diving as she scored 237.53 in One Meter Diving to earn the win for the CSI women in that event.  As for the men, they quickly earned their first win of the meet in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and scored their first individual victory when David Poggioli won the 200 Yard Freestyle.  Maxim Kleyer immediately followed with a win in the 50 Yard Backstroke, an event that Jessica Johnson also won for the CSI women.  Before the 16-event meet reached the midway point, Charles Cusumano picked up the win in the 100 Yard Butterfly and Poggioli earned another first-place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle.

Poggioli continued his impressive showing with another win just two events later in the 100 Yard Freestyle and Kleyer added another top finish to his stat line with a win in the 100 Yard Backstroke.  The next victory for the Dolphins was registered by William Kwan in the 500 Yard Freestyle, and this was followed by CSI taking the top two spots in the 50 Yard Butterfly.  In that event, Anthony Attenborough took first and Nicholas Tartaglione took second to grow the CSI lead.  Kwan then picked up another victory for the Dolphins in the 400 Yard Individual Medley, the event which clinched the win for the CSI men.

Following last year's heartbreaking 116-115 loss against Pace, the CSI men improve their all-time record against the Setters to 6-2-1 with today's win.  The Pace women improve to 8-1 against the women of CSI with their victory.  Today's meet is the last for the Dolphins until mid-January when they take on a familiar foe in Baruch College.  The Dolphins have an even more extensive history against the Bearcats from their time in the CUNYAC conference as a Division III program and will welcome Baruch back into The Tank on January 16, 2023.
