Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball team fell to the University of Bridgeport Saturday afternoon. Despite a late-game push, they lost to the Purple Knights, 72-59. This puts them back in the loss-column after winning three of their last four games. The Dolphins now sit at 6-15 on the year and improve to 4-9 in conference play. The opposing Purple Knights improve to 7-13 and 4-9 in ECC play.
KEY MOMENTS
Right out of the gate Bridgeport jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead. The Dolphins would take their first lead mid-way through the first quarter following a
Gia Esposito triple, 10-9. Both teams went back-and-forth throughout most of the first quarter, and the Purple Knights would enter the second with a one-point advantage, 22-21.
Elizabeth Lofaro would open the second quarter with a wing three-ball for the Dolphins, but Bridgeport would soon respond and regain their six-point lead, 30-24, with just over six minutes to go in the half. They didn't stop there. CSI found themselves on the wrong side of 15-5 run from the Purple Knights, as they trailed 37-24.
Kaia Johnson was doing her part to keep the Dolphins in it as she knocked down back-to-back midrange jumpers to cut the lead to just eight with one minute to go in the first half. Bridgeport would lead going into halftime, 39-31. The Purple Knights would come out of the half and rip-off a quick 5-0 run. Bridgeport opened a 15-point advantage as they turned defense into offense and led the Dolphins 51-36. They wouldn't look back. CSI really struggled to score and get stops in the third and the Purple Knights took advantage of it. The Dolphins would trail by 21 at the end of the quarter. Both teams would play even throughout the fourth, but the deficit was just too much to overcome. CSI would fight until the very end, but they would come up 13 points short. They lost to the Purple Knights, 72-59.

The Dolphins had rough shooting performance. They shot just 34% from the field, 29% from three, and 67% from the free throw line. The biggest disparity came from the boards. The Dolphins were outrebounded by 11 (43-32). CSI also struggled to contain the points in the paint as they got outscored 30-22 downlow. On the other side, Bridgeport had a nice shooting performance. They shot 46% from the field, 45% from three, and 69% from the line.

Kaia Johnson had an all-around performance for CSI. She led the Dolphins in scoring with 15 points and tallied four rebounds and two assists. She was an efficient 6-14 from the floor and 3-4 from the stripe. She played a team-high 33 minutes.
