Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball team fell to Roberts Wesleyan College today, 60-59. Both teams traded blows throughout the contest, but the Redhawks had the final say. The Dolphins are now on a three-game losing streak. They sit at 6-17 on the year and fall to 4-11 in conference play. The opposing Redhawks improve to 13-9 and 10-6 in ECC play.
KEY MOMENTS
CSI jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead. The Redhaws would respond with an 8-0 run of their own. CSI would trail by two out of the first timeout, 10-8. Both teams would struggle to score to close the first quarter. CSI led 12-10 after one.
Noemia Massingue got things started for the Dolphins in the second with a running layup at the 8:30 mark. CSI would begin to gain a cushion as they built a seven-point lead, 19-12. Roberts ripped-off a 5-0 run to cut the Dolphins lead to just two, 19-17, with 4:47 remaining in the half. Things would be all even at 21 with just over two minutes to go. The Dolphins and Redhawks would be knotted at 23 for intermission. Both teams traded blows to start the second half. Roberts would take a two-point advantage mid-way through the third quarter. CSI struggled to score as the Redhawks opened up a nine-point lead, 44-35. They would continue to pour it on as they led 51-40 with one quarter to go. The Dolphins opened the fourth with a 9-2 run behind hot shooting from
Gia Esposito. The Redhawks would respond. Multiple defensive breakdowns would hurt the Dolphins down the stretch as they trailed 57-51 with just over a minute to go. An
Ashley Lambert triple and Alarcon finish would cut the lead to one, 57-56, with 40 seconds remaining.
Gia Esposito knocked down a clutch three-pointer to tie the game at 59 with 16 seconds to go. Unfortunately, CSI couldn't scratch at the buzzer. They lost to the Redhawks 60-59.

The Dolphins had a mediocre shooting performance today. They shot only 36% from the field, 33% from three, and 63% from the free throw line. The biggest disparity came on the boards. The Dolphins were outrebounded by 10 (43-33). CSI had a huge edge on bench points though, as they outscored the Redhawks 26-10 in that department. On the other side, Roberts shot 38% from the field, 21% from three, and 86% from the line.

Gia Esposito had a stellar all-around performance for CSI. She led the Dolphins in scoring with 22 points. She also added 3 assists, 3 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 block. She once again had the hot hand from deep, hitting on a 56% clip (5-9).Â
