Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball team fell to the University of the District of Columbia today, 58-44. The Dolphins came out strong, but the Firebirds gained a rhythm and never looked back. The Dolphins have now dropped four in a row. They sit at 6-18 on the year and fall to 4-12 in conference play. The opposing Firebirds improve to 13-13 and 9-8 in ECC play.
KEY MOMENTS
CSI came out of the gate strong. They started the game with a quick 5-0 run. The Dolphins would own a 10-2 lead midway through the first quarter behind great defensive play. The Firebirds finally began to gain an offensive rhythm as they cut the lead to just two with 1 minute to go in the first quarter, 14-12. CSI went in to the second quarter with a three-point advantage, 16-13. The Firebirds took their first lead early in the second quarter. Both teams would go back-and-forth, and the Dolphins would lead 24-21 with five minutes remaining in the half. After a tough scoring drought, CSI would enter intermission down three, 28-25.
Elizabeth Lofaro drilled a triple to open the second half, tying the game. The Firebirds came storming back and built a seven-point advantage, 37-30. The Dolphins really struggled to score throughout the third quarter as they would only rip-off seven total points. UDC led by eight to start the fourth quarter, 40-32. Following an and-1, the Firebirds opened up a 14-point lead with 7:50 to go in the contest, 48-34. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they would never look back. Despite a late push by CSI, the Firebirds held on to win 56-42.

The Dolphins had a rough shooting performance today. They shot only 28% from the field, 21% from three, and 41% from the free throw line. The deciding factor came in the rebounding disparity. The Dolphins were outrebounded by 21 (59-38). CSI was also outscored by 16 from the charity stripe, 22-6. Despite the win, the Firebirds were mediocre from the floor as well. They shot 26% from the field, 17% from three, and 73% from the line.

Elizabeth Lofaro had an impressive all-around performance for CSI. She led the Dolphins in scoring with 14 points. She also added 3 assists, 6 rebounds, and 1 block. She once again found the mark from deep, hitting on a cool 50% from out there (2-4). She was 5-11 from the field in her team-high 30 minutes of play.
