Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island faced off against the Tigers today in their first home doubleheader of the season. The Dolphins split the games against Holy Family University. They fell in extra innings in Game 1, 6-5, but bounced back in game two for a 4-3 victory. Today's matchup puts the Dolphins at 3-4 on the season, as the opposing Tigers fall to 3-13 overall.
KEY MOMENTS
Game 1
CSI got things started early as they ripped off three runs in the bottom of the first. An Aponte single to center field would advance Carcano to second base. This led directly to an Acosta homer, which registered three RBIs as Aponte and Carcano scored. The Dolphins led 3-0. Behind a four-hit, two-run third inning from the Tigers, they cut the lead to one, 3-2. CSI would respond as they scratched in the bottom of the third. An Acosta double to right center would advance her to third. A Macpherson walk would lead to a Mochrie single to right field and Acosta scored. The Dolphins found themselves up 4-2. HFU would tack on two runs in the top of the fifth to knot the game a 4-4. Both teams would put up one run apiece in the sixth, as this game needed extra innings. After a scoreless seventh inning, the Tigers would score a run in the top of the eight. CSI would never respond. Holy Family went on to win 6-5.
Game 2
This game was decided in the first two innings of play. Holy Family would get on the board first, but the Dolphins would double them up in the bottom of the inning. Following a Carcano single to left field and a Mochrie walk, Macpherson would single to right field leading to a score from Carcano. This set up what was to come later in the inning when Aponte singled to center field for an RBI as Macpherson scored. CSI was up 2-1. The Tigers bounced back with two runs of their own in the top of the second, as they regained their one-run advantage, 3-2. The back-and-forth affair continued as the Dolphins would set up a sequence that led to victory. After Carcano found herself on third, Acosta singled up the middle for an RBI. Immediately following that, Macpherson singled down the right field line and Acosta ran in for the score. This one run advantage would hold for the rest of the contest as the Dolphins went on to win 4-3.
