Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island faced off against the Saints today. The Dolphins split the games against D'Youville University. They lost game one, 5-1, but won game two, 7-5. CSI has now won four of their last six games. Today's matchup puts the Dolphins at 8-16 (4-10 ECC) on the season, as the opposing Saints improve to 16-10 (5-7 ECC) overall.
KEY MOMENTS
Game 1
Both teams would start the game off quiet. The Saints would break the seal in the top of the third inning as they tacked on one run. They added a sole run in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 advantage. CSI would finally scratch in the bottom of the sixth. In what was their only score of the game, Macpherson sparked the sequence with a double to left center. Moore would single through the right side and a Gallo ground out to second base led to a Macpherson score. D'Youville would finish the game off strong with a three-run seventh inning as they went on to win 5-1.
Game 2
The Saints would come out strong in this one. They tacked on three quick runs in the top of the first inning. The Dolphins would respond emphatically in the bottom of the second where they strung together a six-run inning. This was sparked by a Carcano single to shortstop. Mochrie would ground out to shortstop as Carcano stole third. An Aponte single up the middle would lead to an RBI as Carcano scored, 3-1. Acosta would single up the middle which would lead to two RBIs with scores from both Carreon and Aponte. The game was knotted at three runs apiece. A Macpherson double down the leftfield line would give the Dolphins a two-run advantage as Acosta and Katerridge scored. To close the inning, a Gallo single up the middle got Macpherson in for another score. CSI led 6-3. They would add on a sole run in the bottom of the third behind a Macpherson reach on a fielding error. Acosta scored, 7-3. The Saints would combine for only two more runs between the fourth and seventh inning, but they would fall short. CSI won 7-5.
