Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island faced off against the Purple Knights today in their 10
th ECC doubleheader of the season. The Dolphins fell in both the games against the University of Bridgeport Mercy College. They fell in game one, 8-0, but lost game two 11-2. CSI has now lost 10 of their last 11 games. Today's matchup puts the Dolphins at 5-15 (1-9 ECC) on the season, as the opposing Purple Knights improve to 20-11 (8-4 ECC) overall.
KEY MOMENTS
Game 1
The Dolphins really struggled in this one. Queens College would pitch a shutout. CSI went runless and hitless. Bridgeport put up a sole run in the first inning, two runs in the third inning, three runs in the fourth, and two runs in the sixth and final inning. Bridgeport went on to win comfortably, 8-0.
Game 2
Once again CSI would struggle early on. The Purple Knights would get things started in the bottom of the second inning as they ripped off four runs. They would add to that total in the bottom of the fourth with four more runs. They had a commanding 8-0 advantage. The Dolphins finally got on the board in the top of the fifth inning with two runs of their own. This was done behind an Acosta double to left center which was quickly followed by a Macpherson single to right center. After Porcaro struck out swinging, a
Laila Aponte single to centerfield would help her advance to second. This led to two RBIs as Macpherson and Acosta would score the Dolphins' only two runs of the game. After a three-run bottom of the fifth by Bridgeport, they went on to win 11-2.
