MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN SEASON-OPENER AT BLOOMSBURG, 6-2

Bloomsburg, PA - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team took the pitch for the first time this season earlier this afternoon and dropped their first match of the year to Bloomsburg University by a final score of 6-2.  The Huskies got off to a strong start with a pair of goals in the first twenty minutes, but the Dolphins responded with a goal of their own in the twenty-ninth minute.  However, the Huskies seized control of the match following the halftime break and would take a commanding three-goal lead, 4-1, with thirty-one minutes to play.  A Daniel Angulo penalty kick brought CSI one goal closer, but Bloomsburg would cap off a four-goal victory with two more scores in the closing minutes of their 6-2 win.  The Dolphins drop to 0-1 following the defeat while the Huskies open their season 1-0.

Seven of the twelve shots attempted in the first forty-five minutes of the match belonged to CSI, but they would trail by two goals before getting on the scoreboard for the first time in 2022.  Steven Adebisi became the first Dolphin to find the back of the net this season after a strong defensive play by Shane Siegel led to the scoring chance and earned Siegel his first assist of the year.

The 2-1 score held through the intermission, but the Huskies broke the game open with two more goals in the first fifteen minutes of the second half.  Daniel Angulo would pull CSI back to within two on a penalty kick, but Bloomsburg went on to score two goals within less than six minutes of one another for the third time in the match on their way to a 6-2 victory.

Despite the four-goal differential on the scoreboard, the Dolphins were only outshot by four in the match, 18-14.  In shots on goal, Bloomsburg finished with a 13-8 advantage over CSI, and six different Huskies scored a goal.  Angulo led the Dolphins in shots with five, three of which were on goal, and CSI goalkeeping combined to save seven of the thirteen Bloomsburg shots on target.

The next time the Dolphins take the pitch it will be at Dolphins Soccer Park for their 2022 home-opener.  They kick off against Bloomfield College on Wednesday at 3:00 PM in another non-conference matchup.
