GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S SOCCER FACES MOLLOY TO OPEN ECC PLAY

9/10/2022 7:50:00 AM

Rockville Centre, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team will open conference play this afternoon when they take on the Molloy University Lions today at 3 PM.  The Dolphins come in with a record of 0-3-1 and are still looking for their first goal of the season.  The Lions enter today's action 4-1 after suffering their first loss of the season on Wednesday against Wilmington.  These two teams have met just once in a game played last season that the Lions won in convincing fashion, 6-0.

The Dolphins were last in action on Wednesday against the Felician Univeristy Golden Falcons enduring a physical battle that ended in a scoreless tie.  Both teams had several scoring chances throughout the ninety minutes, but the game would ultimately stand out for the physicality displayed by both teams during the second half.  As for the Lions, they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Wildcats on Wednesday.  With the game tied at one, the Wildcats scored the go-ahead goal with less than ten minutes to play in the match to hand the Lions their first loss of the season.

The Dolphins have yet to find the back of the net this season and their leader in shot attempts, Kolleen Rodriguez, was removed from Wednesday's game following a second-half yellow card.  Right behind her in shot attempts is Macy Jones-Busch who received a red card in Wednesday's game and will not be eligible for today's contest.  In addition to Rodriguez and Jones-Busch, five other Dolphins, Adriana Melgar, Emily Albano, Ariel Salaman, Kelly Buckley, and Angye Galan, have started all four games.  For the Lions, they already have three players who have scored multiple goals in Sienna Nicolich, Alessandra Borsellino, and Natalia Piotrowski.  Backer Sarah Tepetto has added three assists as well and goalkeeper Sarah Kilian has allowed less than a half a goal per game through her five starts.
