GAMEDAY: MEN'S SOCCER BACK HOME FOR NON-CONFERENCE MATCHUP WITH HOLY FAMILY

9/14/2022 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team is back on their home pitch this afternoon as they return to non-conference play with a matchup against the Holy Family University Tigers.  Both teams enter today's game with a record of 1-4 and have met just once before in a game won by the Dolphins last season.  CSI took the 2-0 victory against the Tigers on the road last year behind goals from Daniel Angulo and Shane Siegel.  These two teams have followed identical trajectories to this point in the season as each lost their season-opener, won their second match, is currently in the midst of a three-match losing streak, and has found the back of the net just three times.

The Dolphins were last in action on Saturday against conference foe Molloy University in their East Coast Conference opener.  The two sides remained scoreless in the match deep into the second half before the Lions finally got on the board in the sixty-fourth minute.  They would go on to add an insurance goal just over ten minutes later and handed the Dolphins their third straight shutout loss, 2-0.  The Tigers have only scored once in their last three matches with their most recent game also being this past Saturday.  They were shut out 2-0 in their game against Post University in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener and will enter today's matchup with the Dolphins looking to avoid a third straight shutout loss.

These two teams have struggled for offense so far this season, but last year's meeting was one of only two games where CSI scored multiple goals.  Angulo and Siegel led CSI to the two-goal victory, but Dolphins goalkeeping also contributed a clean sheet in the shutout win.  In goal for the Dolphins Amari Thompson has already posted a clean sheet at home this season, and he comes in allowing just shy of three goals per game while facing over ten shots per game.  The Tigers three goals this season have come from three different goal-scorers, Lautaro Berisso, Gavin Rowan, and Dakota Taylor.  Both Berisso and Rowan have attempted seven shots on the season and have combined for seven shots on goal.  Taylor has already attempted twelve shots and eight of those have been on target.  Tigers goalkeeping has combined to allow an even 2.80 goals per game against 69 shots across their first five contests.
