GAMEDAY: MEN'S SOCCER LOOKS TO BOUNCE BACK AGAINST BRIDGEPORT

9/17/2022 8:00:00 AM

Bridgeport, CT - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team will look to bounce back from Wednesday's heartbreaking loss against Holy Family University when they take on the University of Bridgeport tonight at 6 PM.  Following Wednesday's loss, the Dolphins are now 1-5 on the season and have lost four straight.  The Purple Knights enter today's action 3-2-1 looking to extend their winning streak to three.  Tonight's match will be the second time these two teams have met and the first time they have faced one another since Bridgeport departed the East Coast Conference for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.  Last year's meeting was won by the Purple Knights, 3-0.

The Dolphins were last in action on Wednesday against Holy Family University in a game that was decided in the closing minutes.  After trailing 1-0 for the majority of the match, CSI scored the equalizer on a Daniel Angulo free kick.  Less than eight minutes later with only 1:45 remaining on the clock, the Tigers scored the game-winner after an incredible save by Amari Thompson led to a rebound, and ultimately, the decisive goal.  The Purple Knights also last played on Wednesday and took the win over Alliance University to improve to 2-0 in conference play.

The Dolphins finally broke back into the goal column on Wednesday against the Tigers thanks to their leading goal scorer Daniel Angulo, but they will be without Steven Adebisi, who holds a share of the team lead in goals, in tonight's game.  Defensively, Leandro Angulo narrowly missed keeping Wednesday's game tied when he attempted to keep the game-winning goal out of the Dolphins net.  Alongside Steven Flores, the pair of CSI backers has logged over 1000 combined minutes through the team's first six matches.  The Purple Knights currently have three players who have scored multiple goals this season, Lucas Sousa, Maximilian Kissel, and Jesse Clark.  Sousa also has three assists giving him a team-high seven points.  In goal, Amari Thompson is coming off a strong effort for the Dolphins in Wednesday's loss and Clement Anet is coming off of a nine-save clean sheet in his last outing earlier in the week.
