Caldwell, NJ - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team could not build upon a two goal performance in the first half of today's game against Caldwell University as they fell by a final score of 5-2. Behind a hat trick from Andre Vieira, the Cougars improved to 2-5-1 with their second straight win. The Dolphins fell to 1-7 with the defeat and are still in search of their first victory since their home opener.
It didn't take long for Andre Vieira to score the first of his three goals in the game as he opened the scoring in just the ninth minute. The Dolphins would respond less than two minutes later as
Mohammedou Sow registered his first goal of the season off an assist from
Kory Alvarez. The two teams wouldn't be kept out of the goal column for long after that either as the Cougars would quickly score back-to-back goals, one in the fifteenth minute and another in the twenty-fifth minute. Now trailing by a pair, the Dolphins would pull back to within one on a goal by
Nicholas Kishenko who has now scored in his last two outings against the Cougars.
The teams headed into the intermission with the Cougars leading 3-2, and that lead was quickly extended back to a pair as Vieira scored his second goal of the game on a penalty kick. The teams would then go nearly twenty-five minutes without a goal, the longest scoring drought of the match, before Vieira found the back of the net for the third time. The Dolphins attack failed to produce a second half goal and Caldwell earned their second consecutive victory by a 5-2 final.
Much like CSI's last game, the two teams combined for plenty of bookings with the Dolphins being issued five yellow cards and the Cougars being issued three. It was also nearly a two-to-one shot advantage for the Cougars who outshot the Dolphins 20-11. For Vieira, his goals were numbers four, five, and six on the season. Israel Dos Santos Neto tallied his third and Kalleb Braga added his second for the Cougars as well. For the Dolphins, Sow and Kishenko both scored for the first time this season as part of the second multi-goal effort for the Dolphins across their eight matches.
The Dolphins finally return home after a three-game road trip this Saturday when they take on St. Thomas Aquinas College in East Coast Conference play. The game will be part of a CSI Soccer doubleheader with the women kicking off first at 11 AM followed by the men at 2 PM.
