GAMEDAY: MEN'S SOCCER CONCLUDES THREE GAME NON-CONFERENCE STRETCH VS CALDWELL

9/21/2022 8:00:00 AM

Caldwell, NJ - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team will conclude a stretch of three consecutive non-conference matches this afternoon when they take on Caldwell University.  The Dolphins come in still looking for their second win of the season with a record of 1-6.  The Cougars enter today's matchup with the Dolphins at 1-5-1 after earning their first victory of the season in their previous match on Saturday.

Like the Cougars, the Dolphins were last in action on Saturday when they took on former East Coast Conference foe the University of Bridgeport.  For the second straight game, the Dolphins lost by just s single goal.  It was a Purple Knights penalty kick in the forty-third minute that would prove to be the game-winner handing the Dolphins their fifth straight loss.   The Cougars last game also came on Saturday against Georgian Court University.  Caldwell scored a season-high three goals in the 3-2 victory to pick up their first win of 2022.  These two teams have met four times spanning back to 1988 with the most recent game being a 2-1 Cougars victory in overtime last season.  This was the first time the two sides faced one another in over twenty years.

The Dolphins continue to struggle for offense as they have found the back of the net just once in their last five matches.  That goal belongs to captain Daniel Angulo who owns a share of the team lead with a pair of goals on the season.  Fellow captain Leandro Angulo has been key for a Dolphins defense that, despite their 1-6 start, has allowed more than two goals just twice in their seven games.  In last season's matchup, it was Nicholas Kishenko who scored the lone Dolphins goal, and he remains in search of his first score of the season.  For the Cougars, Chris Ferri, their current leading goal-scorer, and Andre Vieira, who has registered a single goal this season, were responsible for the two Caldwell goals in last season's meeting.  Vieira's goal was the overtime winner as the Cougars earned the walk-off win at Dolphins Soccer Park.
