GAMEDAY: MEN'S SOCCER LOOKS TO GET BACK INTO WIN COLUMN AT HOME AGAINST SPARTANS

9/24/2022 9:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team will be looking to get back into the win column on their home turf this afternoon when they take on the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College at 2 PM.  The Dolphins have not won since their home-opener and enter today's game 1-7 overall, 0-1 against the East Coast Conference.  The Spartans are 3-1-3 on the season including an 0-0-2 mark in conference play.  These teams have faced one another just twice, once in a 1-1 tie back in 2019 and once again in a 3-0 Spartans win last season.

The Dolphins wrapped up a stretch of three consecutive non-conference games on Wednesday against Caldwell University.  It was a showcase of offense as the two teams combined for seven goals in the 5-2 Cougars win.  The Spartans last played one week ago against Molloy with the two teams battling to a 1-1 tie.

Both Mohammedou Sow and Nicholas Kishenko found the back of the net for the first time this season during the first half of Wednesday's game against the Cougars.  However, the Dolphins attack could not generate any additional goals and would ultimately go on to lose by three.  Dolphins goalkeeping will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday's lopsided defeat and Amari Thompson has played incredibly well at home thus far.  Thompson has allowed just two goals at Dolphins Soccer Park this year, both coming in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Holy Family University back on September 14th.  The bulk of the scoring for the Spartans this season has come from Kevon Evans and Jorge Umana.  Evans has already found the back of the net eight times in seven games and Umana has added six more goals of his own.  Spartans goalkeeping enters today's game having saved well below 70% of shots faced presenting an opportunity for a Dolphins attack that has struggled to score in several of their games this season.
