GAMEDAY: WOMEN'S SOCCER RETURNS FROM TWO-WEEK LAYOFF FOR MATCHUP WITH SPARTANS

9/24/2022 6:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team returns from a two-week hiatus this morning when they take on the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College at 11 AM.  The Dolphins come in 0-4-1 on the season in search of both their first win and their first goal.  The Spartans enter today's game 1-6 having been shut out in each of their last two matches.  Both teams will be playing for their first victory in conference play as well with the Dolphins currently 0-1 and the Spartans currently 0-2 against the East Coast Conference.  These two teams have met just once before when the Dolphins traveled to Sparkill, NY and defeated the Spartans 1-0 last season.

The Dolphins last played all the way back on September 10th when they faced the Molloy University Lions in their conference opener.  It was a lopsided 5-0 result in that match which dropped the Dolphins to 0-1 against the ECC.  The Spartans last played at home on Wednesday against Chestnut Hill and they also lost in a shutout, 3-0.

The Dolphins have yet to find the back of the net this season, but in last year's meeting with St. Thomas Aquinas College the Dolphins took the victory behind a Nadia Evola goal, 1-0.  That fifty-second minute goal was the lone score in the match was one of Evola's team-leading three goals last year.  In net, Dolphins goalkeeping has combined to allow 2.8 goals per game while saving just over 71% of shots faced.  They CSI goalkeeping duo of Brianna Dore and Sara Villacres will be looking to shut down a Spartans attack that has already been kept out of the goal column in five games this season.  For St. Thomas Aquinas, Natalie Oden is the leader in goals with a pair, and she is the only Spartan who has scored more than once.  Like the Dolphins, the Spartans have also split time between two goalkeepers with Colleen Stevens leading the team with 31 saves and a save percentage just shy of 80%.
