Wilmington, DE - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team will hit the road this afternoon for a non-conference matchup with the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College. The Dolphins come in with a record of 0-5-1 looking to bounce back from a difficult loss on Saturday against St. Thomas Aquinas College. The Lightning enter today's match at 3-6 having lost each of their last three games. These two teams have met just once in a game last season, and in that match, it was a decisive 5-0 victory for the Lightning.
In CSI's last outing on Saturday against the Spartans, they took a first-half lead on a Christina Lambraia goal, the team's first of the season. However, they were unable to hold on to that one-goal advantage as the Spartans would respond with two unanswered goals in the second half, the game-winner coming in the eighty-second minute off the foot of Jasmine Blue. The Lightning were last in action on Saturday as well when they dropped a 1-0 result of the University of Bridgeport. The shutout was just the second time Goldey-Beacom has been held without a goal through their nine matches this year.
Lambraia's goal for the Dolphins on Wednesday was both the team's first of the season and her first as a Dolphin. Barbara Serrano's assist was also her first point as a Dolphin. In goal, Sara Villacres made it three games for CSI goalkeeping allowing two goals or less, but to this point, that hasn't been enough to earn the team their first victory of the season. For the Lightning, Alyssa Ruggeri leads the team in goals with 6 and in assists with 8. Her 20 points put her nine ahead of the team's second-leading scorer Angela Lee who comes in with 3 goals and 5 assists. That duo has also combined for 30 of the team's 58 shots on goal this season. Both Ruggeri and the returning Lexi Coppola scored twice against the Dolphins last season, and current Lightning goalkeeper Nikki Cashin was one of three Goldey-Beacom keepers who saw action against the Dolphins lin 2021. Thus far in 2022, she has allowed just 2 goals per game and saved nearly 75% of the shots she has faced.
