Rutherford, NJ - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team is back on the road today for a matchup with the Felician University Golden Falcons. The 0-3 Dolphins will kick off against the 0-3 Golden Falcons at noon with the two teams set to do battle in search of their first win of the season. These two teams have met just once before in a game that was the 2021 Dolphins home-opener. CSI took the victory in thrilling fashion as the Dolphins scored the golden goal in overtime with just a few seconds remaining on the clock. This 2021 meeting marked the return of intercollegiate soccer competition to the College of Staten Island following the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Dolphins victory was the first for Brendan Guzman as Head Coach.
After dropping their first two matches on the road, the Dolphins returned home and were once again held without a goal in a 4-0 loss to Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday. The Golden Falcons will be hosting CSI in their home-opener in today's game and will come in having dropped their first three games of the season, all on the road. Most recently, they dropped a 4-1 result to Texas A&M International on Sunday.
The Dolphins have been outscored by a 9-0 margin this season through their first three contests, but they have good reason for optimism heading into the matchup with the Golden Falcons. The game against Felician last year was one of three Dolphins wins and one of three games where the Dolphins scored multiple goals. It was also one of five games where the Dolphins allowed one goal or less. Of the Dolphins who found the back of the net in that match, Emily Albano will be active in today's matchup with Felician. Thus far in 2022, she has played all 270 possible minutes for the Dolphins. Leading the way for a Golden Falcons attack that has scored a single goal in each of their three games is Kate Braun. She has a pair of goals on the season and leads her team in points, shots, and shots on goal. However, the Golden Falcons will be without their second leading scorer as Anne Noonan was issued a red card in the team's previous match and will be ineligible for today's contest.
