GAMEDAY: MEN'S BASKETBALL GOES FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE CONFERENCE WIN AGAINST QUEENS COLLEGE

1/11/2023 12:00:00 PM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team will go for their second consecutive conference win tonight when they take on CUNY rival Queens College at 7:30 PM.  The Dolphins enter today's game at 4-10 overall and 2-3 against the East Coast Conference.  The Knights enter tonight's game with a record of 4-10 on the season and are 1-3 in conference play.  The two teams have an extensive history against one another and have faced off thirteen times.  The Knights won the first two meetings in 1978 and 1979, the Dolphins won the next ten, and Queens snapped the CSI win streak in the second of two meetings last season.

The Dolphins closed the weekend home slate with a decisive win over D'Youville University on Sunday.  The Dolphins trailed by double-digits in the first half but came storming back and ultimately won the game by 22.  Queens was narrowly beaten the Cheyney University of Pennsylvania on Saturday by a final score of 66-62, the team's sixth straight loss.

It was a huge weekend for the Dolphins offensively as the team shot the ball incredibly well in their last two games on Friday and Sunday.  The team's leading scorer, Messiah Mallory, fouled out on Friday night, but he bounced back with a 20-point, 13-rebound double-double on Sunday.  JJ Chestnut, the reigning ECC Rookie of the Week, ECC Player of the Week, and MBWA Player of the Week, scored a career-high 27 on Friday and 21 more on Sunday.  Jordan McCallister debuted for the Dolphins on Friday and immediately made an impact with 24 points across his first two games.  Now coming off the bench, Luis Armas continued to deliver incredible shooting as he scored 33 points on 11-15 shooting in CSI's first two games back from the holiday recess.  The two leading scorers for the Knights have combined to play in just two games since December 4th and Tyler Carey leads active players in both scoring and rebounding with 10.5 points and 8.4 boards per game.  Matched up with a Dolphins team that is shooting 44% from the field and 36% from beyond the arc, the Knights come in shooting 40% from the floor and 31% from three-point range.  Queens will be looking to end a six-game losing streak tonight and the Dolphins will be looking to win consecutive games for the second time this season.
