GAMEDAY: MEN'S BASKETBALL TAKES ON DAEMEN IN FIRST GAME OF 2023

1/6/2023 10:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team returns to action tonight at The Tank when they take on the Wildcats of Daemen University at 7:30 PM.  The Dolphins are 3-9 on the season and come in 1-2 against the East Coast Conference.  The Wildcats are 7-6 on the year with a 1-3 record against the ECC.  Both prior meetings between the two teams were won by the Wildcats last season.

The Dolphins were last in action all the way back on December 19th against Felician University.  In that game, 19 points from Messiah Mallory, 18 from Luis Armas, and 17 from Chris Velasquez weren't enough to overcome the 41 points scored by Sean McCarthy in a 95-86 loss.  The Wildcats last played on Monday against Franklin Pierce and defeated the Ravens by eight, 59-51.

Mallory continues to lead the Dolphins in scoring with over 16 points per game and has also been a vital part of CSI's best defensive efforts of the season.  He now has 31 blocks on the year and has proven to be a game-changing presence around the rim.  Mallory is just one of four players averaging double-figures for CSI and is joined by Armas, Velasquez, and Bryce Waterman in scoring more than 10 points per game.  Armas and Waterman have been a lethal duo from beyond the arc this year with the former shooting 35% and the latter shooting over 40% from downtown.  Nick MacDonald and Joey Atkins lead the Wildcats in scoring with both averaging just over 13 points per game.  Atkins is also the team's leading rebounder and MacDonald shooting 40% from three-point range.  That mark trails only Andrew Mason, who is shooting an incredible 46% from distance, among qualifying shooters on the Daemen roster.

Gametime - 7:30 PM
Location - Staten Island, NY
All-Time Series - Daemen leads 2-0
Last Meeting - 1/28/22:  Deamen won, 91-52
