Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

BACK-AND-FORTH MEN'S SOCCER MATCH AGAINST UDC ENDS IN 2-2 DRAW

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team saw two one-goal leads get away from them as they played the University of the District of Columbia to a 2-2 draw.  Now 2-6-4 on the season, the tie earns the Dolphins a point in the conference standings and brings them to 0-3-3 against the ECC.  UDC ends the day 5-6-4 on the year and 3-1-3 in conference play.

The Dolphins opened the scoring just three minutes into the game as Miguel Espinosa scored for the sixth time this season to give the Dolphins a one-goal advantage on their first shot attempt of the match.  Shortly after, the Axel Gamez leveled the score with a goal for UDC on their first shot attempt of the game to make it 1-1.  The two sides would combine for just two more shot attempts, both belonging to UDC, through the rest of the first half and the score remained 1-1 entering the half.

Just as they did in the first half, the Dolphins struck first in the opening minutes of the second half to reclaim their one-goal lead.  For the second time it was Espinosa who scored the goal on a shot that deflected off of a UDC defender on the way in.  The fortunate bounce helped to put the Dolphins ahead 2-1, but just five minutes later a CSI foul in the penalty area resulted in a UDC penalty kick.  Gamez stepped to the dot for the Firebirds and delivered the game-tying goal to even the score at two.  The Dolphins would attempt just one more shot the rest of the way which came on a free kick by Espinosa.  The Firebirds took two more shots during the final 27 minutes of the match including one last shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the final result was a 2-2 draw.

With two games remaining on the schedule, the Dolphins will travel to D'Youville University on Saturday looking to remain alive in the ECC playoff hunt.
