12/2/2023 8:00:00 PM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Indoor Track & Field Team opened their season today in the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex.  Following a record-breaking effort at last year's meet, CSI made their second appearance in this particular meet today as several Dolphins made their Track & Field debut.  Like last season, the highly competitive field was made up of teams from Division I down to Division III.  This saw the Dolphins competing against programs from the both ECC and their former conference, the CUNYAC.

For the Dolphins, the top finish of the meet belonged to Jah Whyte in the 3000-Meter Run.  Whyte took 5th in a field of over 30 participants in the event with a program record time of 9:23.55.  However, Whyte wasn't the only men's runner to break a program record as Vincent Ohenhen earned a spot in the CSI record books with a 6th place time of 6.98 seconds in the 60-Meter Dash.

For the CSI women, the standout finish of the meet belonged to newcomer Sofia Dulisova in the High Jump.  The freshman achieved a height of 1.55m in the event which was good for 4th overall.  Angelina Guerriero also contributed a record-setting effort in the 500-Meter Run with a time of 1:28.61.  In the Shot Put, Skylar Pointer and Aryanna Finkelstein each finished in the top half of the field as well with distances of 10.52m and 10.20m respectively.  This put them among the best Division II performers in the event.  In the Weight Throw, Pointer was even better as she took 9th with a distance of 12.55m.

The Dolphins will be back in action next weekend at the Princeton Invite before an extended period off ahead of a return to action on January 12, 2024 at the Spartan Invitational.
