GAMEDAY: BASEBALL WRAPS UP MYRTLE BEACH TRIP AGAINST BRIDGEPORT

2/27/2023 6:00:00 AM

Myrtle Beach, SC - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team will wrap up their Spring Training trip in Myrtle Beach today as they face a familiar foe in the University of Bridgeport.  Both the Dolphins and the Purple Knights enter today's game 1-3 with both teams picking up their lone win against Adelphi University.  These two teams have some familiarity with one another from the two years they spent together in the East Coast Conference.  The Purple Knights have won four of the six meetings between the two sides, and at least one team has scored ten runs or more in five of those six games.

The Dolphins are coming off of a loss to Felician University in their game yesterday as they were shut out for the second time this season, 9-0.  The Purple Knights also played yesterday and picked up their first win of the season in 11 innings against Adelphi University.  In the most recent matchup between the two teams, the Dolphins defeated Bridgeport 5-4 at the CSI Baseball Complex last year.

Domenick Castiglione continued swinging a hot bat as he added another three hits in four plate appearances against the Golden Falcons in yesterday's game.  He is now 7-14 on the season with a pair of extra-base hits and has hit safely in all four of CSI's games.  Anthony Vigliotti also picked up another hit off the bench yesterday and has started his Dolphins career 3-5 with a double and 3 RBI's.  Thomas Marten reached base twice in yesterday's game against Felician as well and Nick Cippoletti added his third hit of the year.  Michael Fletcher has already collected 7 hits for the Purple Knights in just 15 at-bats, but he is still searching for his first extra-base hit of the season.  Justin Leigh is also off to a strong start as he is 5-14 to open the year with two doubles.

With the exception of the most recent game between the two sides last season, each team has struggled to record outs against the other when they have faced off in the past.  Entering today's game, the CSI pitching staff has recorded one shutout and allowed 8 runs or more in the other three games.  Across their four contests, the Purple Knights pitching staff has pitched fairly well, but Bridgeport has not scored more than three times in any of their first four games.  The first five times the Dolphins and Purple Knights played each other, the two teams combined to score no fewer than 19 runs.  Both teams will enter today's game averaging less than 3 runs per game looking to turn things around at the plate.
