GAMEDAY: BASEBALL FACES CHESTNUT HILL IN FINAL GAMES BEFORE WEEK OFF

3/17/2023 6:00:00 AM

Philadelphia, PA - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team plays their final games before a week off this afternoon when they take on Chestnut Hill College in another non-conference doubleheader.  The Dolphins enter today's games 5-8 coming off a sweep of Dominican University.  The Griffins come in 4-10 and have won three of their last four games.  Both games between the two sides were played last season and the all-time series is even at one game apiece.

With a postponement of Wednesday's scheduled doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom, the Dolphins haven't taken the field since Sunday against Dominican.  The Dolphins fell behind in both halves of the doubleheader and came from behind to earn a sweep of the Chargers.  The Griffins played their last four games in North Carolina over a week ago and picked up three wins in four contests against Alderson Broaddus University and Clarion University.

The CSI freshmen have played a big role for the team offensively early in the season.  Vincent Weigele and A.J. Vigliotti are tied for second on the team in batting at .333 and Anthony Iraci is fifth on the team with a .313 average.  Michael Kehoe leads the Dolphins in hitting at .364 and homered against Dominican on Sunday.  Domenick Castiglione is also batting above the .300 mark and comes in hitting .318 through 13 games.  On the mound, John Esposito is likely to make his third start of the season today.  He comes in looking to build upon five scoreless innings against Caldwell in his last outing and has looked progressively stronger in each of his first three appearances of the season.

For the Griffins, two hitters come in close to or above the .300 mark led by Eli Meredith with a .326 batting average.  Second on the team in that department is Ahmaad Goldson who enters action hitting .298.  As a team, the Griffins come in with a team ERA of nearly 8.00 on the season.  However, they will have their choice of arms to utilize against the Dolphins after having a week off ahead of today's games.  Marlon Rose, the team leader in ERA, is also second in innings-pitched and opponents are hitting just .217 against him.
