DOLPHINS SWEPT BY GOLDEN FALCONS IN OPENING DAY DOUBLEHEADER

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team hosted their home opener earlier today against Felician University and dropped a pair of games to the Golden Falcons.  The Dolphins fall to 4-12 on the season with the two losses and the Golden Falcons improve to 10-9 with their two victories.  The win gives Felician a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series.

GAME 1
The Golden Falcons quickly took the lead in the first inning on a two-RBI triple by Kathryn Steinmetz, but the Dolphins immediately answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.  Anissa Acosta doubled home the first CSI run and Natalya Knoth drove home the second with a groundout.  The score remained even at two until the fifth when a two-out Dolphins error plated the go-ahead run for Felician.  With her team ahead 3-2, Steinmetz drove in two more runs with another base hit in the sixth, and a sacrifice fly made it 6-2 entering the bottom of the seventh.  The Dolphins got one baserunner in the seventh, but they wouldn't get any closer to a comeback in a 6-2 defeat.

GAME 2
Unlike game one, neither team scored in the first inning, but the Golden Falcons went on to break a scoreless tie in the second.  Felician went ahead for good on an RBI double for Steinmetz to make it 1-0, and they added six more runs in the second inning to go ahead by 7-0.  Anissa Acosta, who got the start in the circle for the Dolphins and pitched just two innings, blasted her third home run in four games to open the scoring for CSI.  Two batters later, Alyssa Acosta singled on the infield leading to an errant throw by the Golden Falcons that allowed a run to score from first on the play.  Acosta also tried to score as the throw rolled all the way to the fence, but she was thrown out at the plate.  The Dolphins would not score again until the seventh when they trailed by ten, and they would go on to fall by a final score of 12-3.

Acosta continued to swing a hot bat for the Dolphins finishing the day with 3 hits and 3 RBI's.  Mariah Carcano, Aileen Balderas and Alyssa Acosta all hit safely in both games as well, and the Dolphins offense produced 11 total hits across the two games.  It was a rough day in the circle for Dolphins pitching on a frigid afternoon with the exception of Alexis Miramontes.  After surrendering two runs in the first inning of game one, Miramontes went on to pitch five innings allowing six hits and just two earned runs.

The Dolphins will be back in action on Tuesday as they open the conference portion of their schedule on the road with a matchup against Molloy University.
