DOLPHINS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH TWO LOSSES TO MOLLOY

Rockville Centre, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team opened conference play this afternoon and dropped two games to East Coast Conference foe Molloy University.  The Dolphins fall to 4-14 on the season and 0-2 in conference play following the sweep.  The Lions improve to 11-7 overall and 2-0 in the ECC.

GAME 1
The two offenses would combine for just one run on eleven hits in game one with the lone score coming in the fourth inning.  Steph Conrade would lead off the inning with an infield single and would quickly steal second base.  A groundout advanced her to third before another ground ball resulted in a rundown.  Conrade got back to third safely, and the batter, Amanda King, was able to reach second.  Mae Savage then proceeded to single home the game's first and only run, but the Dolphins had a big opportunity to get even two innings later.  With the bases loaded in the sixth, Elizabeth Moore lined out to shortstop to end the Dolphins threat. CSI then went down in order in the seventh inning as they lost in shutout fashion, 1-0.

GAME 2
The Lions jumped ahead by four behind two first inning extra-base hits and never looked back in game two.  Already leading 4-0, they scored three times in the second and six times in the third.  By this point, Molloy had already hit three home runs in the game and CSI was in too big of a hole to climb out of.  The Dolphins would score once in the third and once in the fourth, and the Lions would add two more in the bottom half of the fourth to go in front 15-2.  This would ultimately be the final score as Molloy avenged a sweep by the Dolphins in the last meeting with a two-game sweep of their own.

Mariah Carcano added yet another two-hit game to her stat line with a pair of hits in game one.  Both Alyssa Acosta and Victoria Whalen had two hits in game two as well and Anissa Acosta added to her conference-leading RBI total with her seventeenth of the season.  Alexis Miramontes pitched very well for the second consecutive outing but was once again a tough-luck loser.  Miramontes allowed just one run on seven hits in 5.1 innings and fall to 3-6 on the year with the loss.  No CSI pitcher remained in the game for more than a single inning in the game two loss, and each allowed at least two runs.

The Dolphins will be right back in action tomorrow at the CSI Softball Complex for a non-conference doubleheader against American International College.  The two games, originally scheduled for Thursday, were moved up to Wednesday in an effort to avoid incoming rain on Thursday.
