GAMEDAY: BASEBALL HOSTS DOUBLEHEADER VS QUEENS IN FIRST OUTING AT CSI BASEBALL COMPLEX

3/26/2023 6:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team takes the field at the CSI Baseball Complex for the first time this season today at noon as they host the Queens College Knights for an East Coast Conference doubleheader.  The Dolphins come in 6-10 on the season and 0-1 against the ECC following Friday's heartbreaking loss to The Knights.  Queens won their seventh straight on Friday defeating the Dolphins 10-9 to improve to 12-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

These two teams put on a show when they took the field against one another in the opener of a four-game series on Friday.  The two sides combined to score nineteen times in the game which saw the Knights score nine of the last ten runs.  The Dolphins led 8-1 early, but a combination of late-inning offense and fielding miscues opened the door for Queens.  The Knights would go on to score five runs in the ninth without recording a single out, ultimately winning the game on a walk-off wild pitch.

Michael Kehoe added two more hits on Friday and continues to lead the Dolphins in batting this season at .424.  Behind Kehoe on the list of CSI's leading hitters are a pair of newcomers to the Dolphins roster.  Freshmen A.J. Vigliotti and Vincent Weigele are both hitting above the .300 mark and each had multiple hits in Friday's game.  Domenick Castiglione and Shendi Ulaj are both hitting above .300 as well and continue to remain key contributors for the Dolphins at the plate.  On the mound, John Esposito and Christian Rice are in line to start for the Dolphins after getting the day off on Friday.  Aidan Kielty, who has pitched very well out of the CSI bullpen this year, also did not pitch on Friday.

The Knights offense had six players finish Friday's game with multiple hits, but Queens had the opportunity to come from behind to win thanks in large part to the effort of their bullpen.  Johnnie Rodopolous pitched five innings out of the Queens bullpen to earn his first win of the year allowing just one run.  Both teams used only three pitchers on Friday, and the Knights also have two of their top starters available for today's game.  Jordan Sanabria could be in line to get a start against the Dolphins today and fellow starter Nick Kozerski worked just one single inning on Friday.  The Knights also have four of their five most-used relievers likely available to pitch in today's games.
