GAMEDAY: BASEBALL CONCLUDES WEEKEND HOMESTAND WITH DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST CALDWELL UNIVERSITY

3/5/2023 6:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team concludes their weekend homestand this afternoon when they play their second non-conference doubleheader in as many days against Caldwell University.  Today's games will once again be played at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park, the home of the Staten Island Ferry Hawks.  Fans will not be permitted at the game unless they have received a ticket from the venue.  The Dolphins enter action 1-6 and today's games will be the first two of the season for the Cougars.

The Dolphins picked up their first win in program history against the Cougars last season to improve to 1-3 against Caldwell all-time.  The 5-2 victory came in the second of two games between the two teams played last season, and last year's doubleheader marked the first time the two teams had faced one another since 1999.

The CSI offense struggled in yesterday's doubleheader against Bloomfield and were shut out for the third time this season in the second game of the doubleheader.  Though the offense never got going, CSI pitching allowed just five runs across 14 innings in the two games, and Ryan Kehoe continued his strong start to the season.  Tylor Martinez contributed a two-hit game for the Dolphins as well, but the Dolphins totaled just 11 hits in the two games.  Though the Dolphins enter today's game hitting just .223 as a team, their team ERA is moving in the other direction and is now below 5.00.  Look for Christian Rice and Angelo DeFilippis to be among the Dolphin arms to see action in today's games for a CSI pitching staff that is trending in a positive direction.

Gametime - 12:00 PM
Location - Staten Island University Hospital Community Park - Staten Island, NY
All-Time Series - Caldwell leads, 3-1
Last Meeting - 3/8/22:  CSI won, 5-2
