Leesburg, FL – The College of Staten Island Softball Team took the field in Sleepy Hollow for their third day of action in The Spring Game earlier today and suffered a pair of defeats against Trevecca Nazarene University and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. In the first game against the Trojans, the Dolphins lost 8-0. In game two, the Fighting Scots defeated the Dolphins 3-0. With the two losses the Dolphins are now 3-5 to start the season.
GAME 1 VS TREVECCA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY
Alexis Miramontes was able to work out of trouble in each of the first two innings, but the Trojans finally broke through in the third. A Dolphins throwing error opened the door, and a series of stolen bases by TNU led to a three-run inning to give the Trojans all the offense they would need. Already ahead 3-0, the Trojans would score two more in the fifth and three more in the sixth to go in front 8-0. In need of a run to keep the game going, the Dolphins failed to score in the sixth and finished the game without a hit.
GAME 2 VS EDINBORO UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA
The Dolphins began to mount some offense early in game two as they threatened in the opening inning against the Fighting Scots. After the first two CSI batters of the game reached on a single and a walk, Macy Sral escaped the jam for Edinboro behind a strikeout and two ground balls. The Fighting Scots then proceeded to take the lead on a first-inning solo home run which gave them all the offense they would need. The Dolphins stranded runners in scoring position in the second, third, and fourth innings without scoring. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots scored a single run in the fourth and fifth to go ahead by three. The Dolphins then mounted a threat in the sixth, but the inning came to a premature end as a throw behind the runner at third resulted in the final out. This would be the last time the Dolphins had a baserunner as they took the loss 3-0.
Mariah Carcano had a two-hit performance for the Dolphins in the second game, but the CSI bats struggled to mount any consistent offense. Dolphins pitching was solid against the Fighting Scots as well, allowing just the three runs. Against the Fighting Scots, four of the eight runs allowed by the Dolphins were unearned, and seven stolen bases by the Trojans made it very difficult on Dolphins pitching.
The Dolphins are back in action for the final day of their Florida trip tomorrow when they take on Saint Michael's College and the University of Minnesota Crookston.
