DOLPHINS SEE LEAD GET AWAY LATE IN GAME TWO OF SWEEP BY MOLLOY

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team resumed conference play at home earlier today as the Dolphins fell to Molloy University in both games of today's doubleheader.  Following a decisive Molloy win in game one, the Dolphins saw their lead get away late in a 5-4 game two loss.  The two defeats drop the Dolphins to 11-25 on the season and 3-9 against the East Coast Conference.  Molloy finishes the day 23-12 overall and 10-1 in conference play.

GAME 1
After loading the bases with two outs in the second inning, the Lions got on the board first behind a two-RBI single from Steph Conrade.  Molloy then scored two more in the fourth on an Emily McGurk two-RBI triple before McGurk came home to score the fifth Lions run on a wild pitch.  McGurk drove in another run with a base hit in the fifth and Conrade picked up RBI number three and four on another hit moments later.  Amelia Funston got the Dolphins on the board with a groundout in the bottom half of the inning, but Conrade added a bases-clearing triple in the next half-inning to make it 11-0.  The Lions would score once more in the inning and went on to win by a final score of 12-1.

GAME 2
Following a hit batter and a single with one out in the home first inning, Aileen Balderas crushed a three-run homer over the left field wall to put the Dolphins ahead 3-0.  That lead would stand until the fourth when three straight hits by the Lions made it 3-2 and forced a CSI pitching change.  Alexandra Frenza, who got the game two start, was replaced by Anissa Acosta.  Acosta allowed one of the inherited runners to score on a wild pitch, but she would escape the inning without allowing Molloy to take the lead.  With the game tied at three, Rianne Mayer opened the bottom half of the inning with a double.  Mayer would ultimately come in to score on a base hit by Avery Mochrie and the Dolphins went back in front 4-3.

Trailing by one entering the sixth, Molloy moved the tying run to third base with two outs.  Frenza then re-entered the game to replace Acosta in the circle, and Emma Bachman promptly doubled to tie the game.   Conrade then picked up her eighth RBI of the day to give the Lions a one-run lead before Frenza was able to record the third out.  The Dolphins got a one-out baserunner in the next half-inning, but that runner was quickly erased on an inning-ending double play.  Both teams would go down quietly in the seventh, and the Dolphins suffered the loss by a final score of 5-4.

Acosta had three hits for the Dolphins in game one while Conrade went 4-5 with 7 RBI in the first game of the day for Molloy.  Four other Lions had a multiple-hit game in the 14-hit effort in game one, and the Dolphins finished the game with nine hits.  In game two Acosta, Funston, Balderas, and Mayer each had two hits for the Dolphins.  The story in the two games was each team's hitting with runners on base.  The Dolphins struggled throughout both games to hit with runners in scoring position while the Lions thrived in those spots.

The Dolphins will be right back at it tomorrow as they hit the road for a non-conference doubleheader against Adelphi University.  First pitch of game one will be at 2 PM.
