4/14/2023 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team will open a huge four-game series this afternoon as they take on the Mercy College Mavericks at the CSI Baseball Complex.  The Dolphins come in 10-17 on the season and are 2-6 in conference play.   The Mavericks come in with an overall record of 6-25 and 2-10 against the ECC.  The Mavericks have the advantage in the all time series with wins in 14 of the 22 meetings between the two teams.  Last time these two teams faced one another, the Dolphins snapped a streak of seven consecutive Mercy wins over CSI.

The Dolphins last played on Heroes Day last Saturday and picked up a pair of big wins over Alliance University.  CSI scored 37 combined runs in the two games against the Warriors and got a complete game shutout from John Esposito in game one.  The Mavericks were last in action on Saturday when they salvaged the final game of a four-game set against D'Youville, 7-3.

The same four Dolphins have led the team in hitting for much of the season as AJ Vigliotti, Michael Kehoe, Shendi Ulaj and Vincent Weigele all are hititng well above .300.  Vigliotti and Ulaj each had two hits in both game against the Warriors and Kehoe had three hits in each game.  Following a 15-strikeout complete game against Alliance on Saturday, John Esposito was named Pitcher of the Week in the East Coast Conference.  However, Ryan Kehoe has typically opened each conference series for the Dolphins.  The sophomore comes in the team leader in ERA, wins, innings-pitched, strikeouts and appearances.

The Mavericks are led in batting by Nolan Giblin who comes in hitting .313.  However, Mercy is hitting just .251 as a team on the year.  Last season, the Mavericks scored 14 runs against the Dolphins for the second time in the 22 games the two teams have played against one another, a total that tied an all-time high for Mercy against CSI.  This season, the Mavericks have pitched to a team ERA above 8.00 while the Dolphins are allowing just north of six runs per game.
