GAMEDAY: BASEBALL CONTINUES SERIES AGAINST MERCY WITH ROAD DOUBLEHEADER

4/15/2023 6:00:00 AM

Dobbs Ferry, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team continues their four-game series with Mercy College on the road this afternoon with a doubleheader that begins at noon.  The Dolphins come in 10-18 on the season and are 2-7 in conference play following yesterday's loss.   The Mavericks come in with an overall record of 7-25 and 3-10 against the ECC after their win over CSI.

The Dolphins struck first in yesterday's game, but the Mavericks scored nine of the last ten runs to pick up a 9-2 victory.  Mercy put together a 17-hit effort against CSI pitching and Mavericks pitching held the Dolphins to just seven hits.

Jaden Caballero led the way for the Mavericks at the plate in yesterday's game with a 5-5 effort.  He also saved at least one run in the first inning with a diving catch in center field at a point in the game when the Dolphins had the bases loaded and nobody out.  Michael Kehoe continued to produce from the leadoff spot for the Dolphins with two more hits.  However, the Dolphin bats went cold for much of  yesterday's game and CSI did not have a single hit with a runner in scoring position.  Look for Christian Rice and John Esposito to get starts for the Dolphins in today's doubleheader.  Esposito is coming in an the reigning East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week award and Rice hopes to return to the form that earned him ECC Rookie of the Week earlier this season.

Today's games will have major playoff implications for both teams as each is currently chasing a conference playoff spot.  The Mavericks moved ahead of the Dolphins in the win column with their victory in yesterday's game.  However, the Mavericks have played four more conference games than the Dolphins thus far.

Gametime - 12:00 PM
Location - Dobbs Ferry, NY
All-Time Series - Mercy leads 15-8
Last Meeting - 4/14/23: Mercy won 9-2
