GAMEDAY: DOLPHINS HOST MERCY LOOKING TO SECURE SERIES SPLIT IN SUNDAY FINALE

4/16/2023 6:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team wraps up their series with Mercy College later today as they take on the Mavericks at the CSI Baseball Complex.   The Mavericks have taken two of the first three games in the series to improve to 8-26 on the season and 4-11 against the East Coast Conference.  The Dolphins enter today's game 11-19 overall and 3-8 against the ECC.

The Mavericks took game one of yesterday's doubleheader by a final score of 5-1 as the CSI bats struggled to find offense for the second straight game.  In game two it was a rebound effort for CSI as they got a complete game shutout from John Esposito.  However, the Dolphins went eight innings without a run in both games, and it took a four run ninth inning in extras to come away with the win.

No hit was bigger for the Dolphins yesterday than Vincent Weigele's two-RBI double in game two.  For CSI, hits with runners in scoring position had eluded them in the series, and this signaled a potential turnaround in that regard.  Getting a chance to start both games yesterday, Thomas Marten delivered a pair of multiple hit games as well.  The two multi-hit games come on the heels of his three-run homer against Alliance University last weekend.  In an effort to get the bats going Dolphins have gone with some new lineup combinations against the Mavericks.  This gave opportunities to players like Marten who have seen their at-bats reduced this season.

The Mavericks will have just eight conference games remaining after today's matchup with CSI and can lock up a potential tiebreaker over the Dolphins with a win in today's game.  However, if the Mavericks lose, the Dolphins will be even in the conference win column with twelve conference games remaining on their schedule.

Gametime - 12:00 PM
Location - Staten Island, NY
All-Time Series - Mercy leads 16-9
Last Meeting - CSI won 4-0
