SOFTBALL DROPS A PAIR OF ONE-RUN GAMES TO THE COLLEGE OF SAINT ROSE

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team was back on their home field for the second consecutive day earlier this afternoon and dropped a pair of one-run games to the College of Saint Rose, 6-5 and 3-2.  The two defeats drop the Dolphins to 11-33 on the season and the Golden Knights improve to 11-24 with the wins.

GAME 1
The Golden Knights opened the game by drawing a pair of walks against CSI starter Alexis Miramontes, and THEY capitalized on the two early baserunners with a pair of one-out base hits.  With two on and one out, Madison Chandler singled home one run with a second coming home on a Dolphins error.  Chandler came in to score on another base hit by Alexander Deeter moments later, but the Dolphins would bring the inning to an abrupt end on a 9-3 double play.  Trailing by three early, the Dolphins got one run back on an Anissa Acosta RBI double in the bottom of the first.  However, the Golden Knights added two more in the second to go ahead 5-1.  A Natalya Knoth infield single plated another CSI run in the third to pull the Dolphins back to within three, and this would be the last time either team would score until the sixth.

Leading 5-2, the Golden Knights added a run in the sixth to go in front by four.  The Dolphins then proceeded to load the bases on three straight walks to open the home half of the inning and scored their third run on an error soon after.  Now behind by three, Anissa Acosta delivered a two-RBI single to cut the Saint Rose lead to one.  However, Alyssa Acosta, who reached on an error, was thrown out trying to advance from first to third on the run-scoring hit.  This left the Dolphins with a runner on first and two outs, but CSI failed to score again in the inning.  This was also the last time the Dolphins would mount a significant run-scoring threat and they went on to lose by a 6-5 final score.

GAME 2
The Dolphins got on the board first in the opening inning of game two after a dropped line drive in right field brought home the game's first run.  The Dolphins would hold a 1-0 lead until the fourth when back-to-back run-scoring hits brought home three for the Golden Knights.  Now trailing 3-1, the Dolphins loaded the bases in the next half inning and drew one run closer on an RBI single by Victoria WhalenMariah Carcano came to the plate with a chance for more, but a strikeout brought the inning to a close with the Golden Knights leading 3-2.  CSI would get runners on base in each of the next two innings, two in the fifth and one in the sixth, but they would fail to score in each inning.  Still behind by one and down to their final two outs in the seventh, a dropped pop-up gave the Dolphins a runner in scoring position.  However, this was as close as CSI would come to tying the game as they once again stranded two on base and lost by a final score of 3-2.

Anissa Acosta had three hits for the Dolphins in game one including a big two-RBI hit to bring the Dolphins to within a run.  No other Dolphin had multiple hits in either game and the team finished with eight hits in game on and five hits in game two.  Despite allowing five runs in her game one start, Alexis Miramontes pitched fairly well.  In relief, Alexandra Frenza did not allow a run in game one, and in game two she allowed just one.  The two losses make it three times this season that the Dolphins have fallen to the Golden Knights by just a single run.

With just four games remaining on the schedule, the Dolphins will be back home on Sunday for an East Coast Conference doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas College.  First pitch, which was originally scheduled for noon on Sunday, is expected to be pushed back to approximately 2 PM.
