GAMEDAY: BASEBALL CONTINUES WEEKEND SERIES AGAINST MOLLOY WITH DOUBLEHEADER AT HOME

4/2/2023 6:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team continues their weekend series against the Molloy University Lions today at the CSI Baseball Complex with a doubleheader that begins at noon.  The Dolphins enter today's games 8-12 on the season and 2-3 against the East Coast Conference following Friday's 11-0 victory over Molloy.  The Lions come in 16-10 overall, and Friday's loss was their first defeat in five conference games.

The Dolphins picked up a decisive win on Friday against the Lions in their most complete effort of the season.  CSI starting pitcher Ryan Kehoe delivered the best start of his career in a complete game shutout and the Dolphins offense scored a season-high 11 runs.  Kehoe's final line included just four hits allowed and 11 strikeouts in his 9 innings of work.  Freshman A.J. Vigliotti drove in six runs, a pair coming on a two-run homer and went 3-4 with with his third home run of the season.  Nick Cippoletti also had three his in the game and Shendi Ulaj finished 2-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Lions bats went cold against the Dolphins on Friday, but the four-hit game is the exception rather than the rule for a Molloy team that enters today's games hitting .307 as a unit.  Notable absences from Friday's lineup were two of the leading Molloy hitters in JJ Devito and Jake McCarthy.  Devito comes in leading the Lions in batting with a .373 mark on the season and McCarthy is fourth in batting at .309.

Friday's loss to the Dolphins resulted in several notable firsts for both Molloy and CSI.  These include the first time Molloy was shut out this season, the first victory over Molloy for CSI in program history, and the first loss for the Lions in conference play this season.  Today's doubleheader will feature a nine-inning CSI home game in game one and a seven-inning Molloy home game in game two.
