SOFTBALL SURRENDERS TWO ONE-RUN LEADS IN LOSSES TO NEW HAVEN

West Haven, CT – The College of Staten Island Softball Team played the last of three straight doubleheaders this afternoon and dropped a pair of games to the University of New Haven in non-conference play.  With the two losses the Dolphins fall to 10-22 on the season and Chargers finish the day 9-18 following two wins.

GAME 1
The Dolphins got on the board in the first inning with an Amelia Funston sacrifice fly to go ahead 1-0, a score that would stand until the bottom of the third.  In the home third inning Bella Chenet delivered a two-RBI double to give New Haven their first lead, 2-1.  The Dolphins evened up the score on an Alyssa Acosta RBI single in the fourth, but the Warriors immediately answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Those two runs were the first of seven unanswered runs scored by the Chargers during the last four innings as they went on to beat the Dolphins 9-3.

GAME 2
Just as they did in game one, the Dolphins took the lead in the first inning of game two on an RBI groundout by Funston.  However, this would be the final time the Dolphins would score.  CSI starter Alexandra Frenza kept the Dolphins in front through the start of the fifth inning allowing just one hit in her first four innings of work.  After recording the first two outs in the fifth, Frenza would face a bases loaded jam in a one-run game.  A walk would bring home the tying run, and the Chargers went on to score six times in the inning to go ahead by five.  Neither team would score again and the two sides combined for just six hits in the game as the Chargers took the win, 6-1.

Mariah Carcano had two hits for the Dolphins in game one, but no other Dolphin had more than a single hit on the day.  After Madison Edwards and Kelsey Strayer combined to pitch seven innings in game one, Frenza and Anissa Acosta combined to pitch the entirety of game two.  After pitching in both doubleheaders on Monday and Tuesday, Alexis Miramontes was given the day off and did not pitch in either game.

The Dolphins will return home on Friday afternoon for a conference doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College.  First pitch for game one will be at 1:00 PM.
