Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MEN'S SOCCER DROPS FIRST CONFERENCE MATCH TO DAEMEN, 3-1

Amherst, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team dropped their first conference match earlier today as they were defeated by Daemen University, 3-1.  The Dolphins begin conference play 0-1 and are now 2-3-1 on the season.  The Wildcats improve to 2-4-1 overall and even their conference record at 1-1.  Daemen also remains perfect against the Dolphins in the all-time series across three meetings.

Despite the Dolphins holding a 10-5 first-half advantage in shots, it was the Wildcats that registered the game's first goal in the 27th minute.  Larry Noel got Daemen on the board for the first time, and the Wildcats appeared poised to take the lead into halftime.  However, in the closing seconds of the half Brendan Maguire scored for the first time this season to even the score at 1-1.

That score would stand for the first 11 minutes of the second half, but the Wildcats would once again go on in front on a goal by Rayane Baitiche.  With shots at a premium in the second half, the game's fourth goal would not be scored until the final seven minutes.  Bruno Lago Pujol would give Daemen some extra breathing room with an 84th minute goal to to make the score 3-1.  Neither team would score again in the Wildcats victory as the two sides managed just four shot attempts each in the second half.

Though CSI suffered the loss, they continued their streak of consecutive games with a goal to open the season which now stands at six games.  Brendan Maguire became the team's eighth different goal-scorer, and on that goal, William Lopez tallied his first assist of the year.   CSI's 14 shot attempts were the most since their season opener against Bloomfield last month.

The Dolphins continue conference play on the road next week when they visit Mercy University on Wednesday at 12:00 PM.
