Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

LATE GOAL NOT ENOUGH TO PUSH DOLPHINS PAST QUEENS IN 2-1 LOSS

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team renewed their rivalry with Queens College earlier today, but the Dolphins could not snap their winless streak against the Knights in a 2-1 defeat.  The Dolphins trailed 2-0 late into the second half before pulling to within one on an unconventional goal by Steven Adebisi.  However, CSI could not net an equalizer and fell to 2-4-2 on the season and 0-2-1 in conference play.  With the win, the Knights improved to 5-3-1 overall and 2-1 against the ECC.

Queens didn't take long to score the game's first goal as they registered the first goal of the match less than eleven minutes into the first half.  Leo Pinto opened the scoring for Queens with assists from Harry Cooke and Adolfo Martinez Pacquet.  The 1-0 score would stand until halftime despite a 6-2 shot advantage for the Dolphins through the first 45 minutes.

Just as they did in the first half, the Knights scored early in the second half.  This time, Tommy Gunn registered the goal for Queens and Pinto earned another point with an assist.  This 2-0 score would hold until the closing minutes when the Dolphins scored in very unconventional fashion.  After the Dolphins sent a long ball up the pitch that reached Knights goalkeeper Juan Cruz Ladino, Fortune Uzo was able to use his head to dislodge the ball from his grasp.  Adebisi, who was trailing the play, contacted the ball on a sliding shot attempt and sent it into the vacant net.  Now behind 2-1, the Dolphins had one last opportunity in the closing seconds, but a final shot traveled wide off the head of Leandro Angulo.

The Dolphins finished with a 12-9 shots advantage, but the Knights finished with 5 shots on goal to CSI's 3.  9 yellow cards were issued in an incredibly physical game that saw the teams combine for a total of 30 fouls.  Before the final horn sounded, 41 players entered the game between the two teams in a game that lasted over two hours with stoppages.

The Dolphins will continue conference play when they return home for their next game one week from today against Roberts Wesleyan.
