DOLPHINS SURRENDER LONE GOAL IN LOSS AT BENTLEY, 1-0

Waltham, MA - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team faced the Bentley University Falcons for the first time in program history earlier today and surrendered the lone goal in a 1-0 defeat.  Following a scoreless first half, the Falcons struck quickly after the halftime break and held the lead for the final 40 minutes in the win.  The loss for the Dolphins drops CSI to 2-7-1 on the season.  The Falcons improve to 5-2-2 on the year.

After CSI registered the first shot of the match, the Falcons began to turn up the pressure on the attack.  During the twenty minutes following the first Dolphins shot attempt, Bentley attempted the next six shots, three of which were saved by CSI goalkeeper Justin Karaburan.  Following the early onslaught by the Falcons, the two teams split the final six shot attempts of the half.  The Dolphins would finish the half with four shots, one on target.  Bentley would finish the first 45 minutes putting four of their nine shots on goal.

It took just over five minutes following halftime for the Falcons to take the lead with the lone goal of the match.  Johann Fraser broke the scoreless tie in the 51st minute on the first shot of the second half by either team.  From there, the Falcons would go on to outshoot the Dolphins 6-1 with both teams having limited chances for the remainder of the match.  Of the seven shots that came after the Bentley goal, none were on target.  This kept the Dolphins trailing by one the rest of the way as the Falcons took the win in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

For the Dolphins Koray Arslan and Badr Mesrar each registered two shots in the match accounting for four of the five CSI shot attempts.  Anthony Benvenuto returned to the CSI lineup for the first time in nearly a month as well playing all 90 minutes in the match.  Along with Karaburan, he and five other Dolphins played the entire game.  Maynor Palacios also made his CSI debut playing 83 minutes in his first outing of the season.

The Dolphins will be back on the road for another non-conference match on Wednesday when they face Adelphi University on the road at 7:00 PM.
