Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

SECOND HALF COMEBACK BID NOT ENOUGH TO GET DOLPHINS PAST PANTHERS IN 3-2 DEFEAT

Garden City, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team battled back from an early deficit against Adelphi University earlier tonight, but a two-goal second half was not enough to power them past the Panthers as the Dolphins went on to lose by a final score of 3-2.  The Dolphins fall to 2-8-1 on the season with the defeat and the Panthers improve to 7-3-2.  Adelphi now leads the all-time series against the Dolphins 2-0 and has scored nine goals in two games against CSI.

The Panthers put pressure on the CSI defense and Dolphins goalkeeper Justin Karaburan early in the match with five shots in the first 23 minutes.  Three of those were off-target and the other two were saved by Karaburan to keep the game scoreless.  The first CSI shot on goal came on their third attempt of the game in the 30th minute, but that was stopped by Chris Interiano.  Less than two minutes later, Adelphi opened the scoring with a goal by Pablo Herrera.  With the Panthers ahead 1-0, the two teams would combine for just one shot during the final fourteen minutes of the first half, and the score remained unchanged through halftime.

The second half saw four goals scored beginning with the sixth of the season for Brendan Maguire.  With the score now level at 1-1, it didn't take long for the Panthers to regain the lead.  Just five minutes after the Maguire goal, Benjamin Salas put the Panthers back in front by one.  Just over 20 minutes later, Herrera doubled the lead with his second goal of the game, and the Dolphins now trailed by two with less than fifteen minutes to play.  With under five minutes to go, the Dolphins would pull to within one on an improbable Panthers own goal.  However, CSI would not generate another shot, and the game ended with a 3-2 Panthers victory.

For the Dolphins Maguire and Miguel Espinosa led the way in shots with two each, but only Maguire put a shot on goal for the Dolphins in the match.  Yousef Dardeir and Anthony Benvenuto each played the full 90 minutes for the Dolphins along with Karaburan who recorded three saves.

The Dolphins are back home for Senior Day on Saturday when they will host D'Youville University at 2:00 PM.
