Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

SAINTS OUTLAST DOLPHINS DESPITE ESPINOSA SENIOR DAY BRACE, 4-2

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team erased two separate one-goal deficits on Senior Day against D'Youville earlier today, but the Saints ended the game with a pair of unanswered goals to defeat the Dolphins 4-2.  With the win, the Saints improve to 3-7-3 overall and 1-2-2 against the ECC.  The Dolphins fall to 2-9-1 on the year and 1-4-1 in conference play.  The win for D'Youville is their first-ever victory against the Dolphins as they trim the CSI lead in the all-time series to 3-1.

Both teams generated early scoring chances, but it would take over 25 minutes for the first goal of the match to be scored.  After the Saints were awarded a free kick, Shawn Richardson sent a long ball into a crowd near the Dolphins goal.  Emerging from the crowd assembled near the goal, Aseir Fernandez scored to put the Saints ahead 1-0.  Ten minutes later, Miguel Espinosa took the ball away from Saints goalkeeper Matthew Solorio and easily scored the first CSI goal to level the score.

The score remained tied at one through halftime, but the second half would see the two teams combine for another four goals.  First, the Saints regained the lead on a header by Ethan Robinson.  Robinson, who soared above the CSI defense to convert on the header, was assisted on a corner kick by Charlie Stewart.  In response, Espinosa wasted no time netting the equalizer, his second goal of the game.  After Brendan Maguire was able to get the ball to Brian Kerilu through traffic, Kerilu found Espinosa for the game-tying goal.  With the score now even at 2-2, the Saints responded just three minutes later.  Omar Daoudi followed what appeared to be an intercepted pass and immediately scored the go-ahead goal from in close.  Ahead by one in the closing minutes, the Saints got some insurance on a Dylan Danch goal, and they went on to win by a final of 4-2.

Espinosa finished the match with two goals on seven shots and Peterson Larose added another four shot attempts for the Dolphins.    Seven Dolphins including goalkeeper Justin Karaburan played the full 90 minutes including seniors Espinosa, Kerilu, Maguire, and Yousef DardeirBilly Pavlou, another CSI senior also played the full match.

The Dolphins will play what is going to be a highly important conference game on Wednesday when they visit Molloy.  That match will kick off at 4:00 PM.
